You are not a home owner and so therefore you ask yourself is this article applicable to me. The answer to the question is a resounding yes. Imagine for an instant that someone where to get hut on your property or you or a family member unintentionally hurt someone, you could be liable.

Who needs Personal Liability Insurance?

The answer to that question is everyone who can afford it. Accidents happen all the time, no one can predict when or where they will/could happen.

A neighbour brings over a package that has been incorrectly delivered and trips on that broken step on your porch and dislocates and ankle. Could you be held liable?......yes.

After school your children and a few of their friends are out by the pool and one of their friends gets injured on a loose tile or hurts their back when the hammock gives in. Could you held liable?......yes.

Your teenager is driving your car and takes their eyes off the road for a second to send a text message, misjudges a corner and rear ends another vehicle injuring one of the passengers.......Could you be held liable?.....yes.

In all of these cases those injured could make use of the services of personal injury Lawyers/Attorneys and sue you. If any of these scenarios where to happen then personal liability insurance would surely have come in handy.

How do I obtain personal liability insurance?

The basic coverage on a renter’s insurance policy ranges from $100,000 to $300,000. Additional coverage can be purchased if the basic amounts do not meet your needs.

The additional cover would usually apply to individuals who:

  • Have lots of people visiting their residence.
  • Those who engage in extended motor journeys or have long commutes to work

Do your research as with anything else that you would purchase and ensure that you fully understand the fine print. Another option is to shop around for quotes and compare pricings.

If you still feel that personal liability cover is not for you then at least have the number of one of Pennsylvania Accident Injury Lawyers on hand in the event that you do require their services.
